There was tension at the express area of Idoani, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Monday when the traditional ruler of Idogun, Oba Moses Bakare, reportedly led some youths suspected to be thvgs to the neighbouring community in an attempt to arrest a man he accused of assaulting his family.
According to an eyewitness, the Onidogun alleged that the man, who is a native of Idogun was among those who att@cked and m0lested him, his wife, and his son in Idogun last week.
In a video obtained by our reporter, the man who was shouting was seen being tied to the ground and overpowered by the thvgs who came with the monarch.
The monarch himself was seen in the video wearing white attire and a white cap, which is mostly worn by traditional rulers.
However, youths of Idoani and people around the area prevented the monarch and his thvgs from taking the suspect away as he was being tied in the video.
They insisted that the traditional ruler had no authority to make an arrest and should have reported the matter to security agencies.
Sources further alleged that Oba Bakare arrived in Idoani with several youths from Idogun and was seen brandishing a cvtlass while engaging in a heated confrontation with residents at the Idoani-Abuja junction.
Although this Reporter saw no cutlass in the video shared, eyewitnesses said the monarch covered the cutlass with a white cloth and brought it out when he was challenged.
“At this point, he had yet to bring out the cutlass. But when the youths prevented him and his thugs from carrying the guy into the vehicle, he brought out the cutlass to scare them. But the youths now moved against him. He then ran away”, the eyewitness said.
As at press time, there was no official statement from security agencies on the incident, while calm had reportedly been restored to the area following the intervention of community leaders.
